Jack in the box

Children love to turn the crank while singing along to "Pop Goes The Weasel."

At the end, they’re treated to an eye-opening and joyous surprise when the "Jack" pops out of the box. When your expensive mattress set wears out after only a few years, your reaction won’t be quite as joyous when you find "Jack" In The Box.

You will, however, be in for an eye-opening surprise! Every quality innerspring mattress needs a box spring under it to absorb the shock it sustains in nightly use. Without a box spring, the mattress alone absorbs all the shock and it simply wears out about forty percent sooner. To cut costs and maintain profit margins, some mattress merchants will substitute a solid top foundation usually consisting of a cheaply constructed wooden frame, with a 200 lb. per square inch cardboard top (the same type of cardboard your television set came packed in).

They’re dressed up to look just like a box spring to the consumer but they don’t perform like a box spring. They cost much less to manufacture. They are marketed under the guise of a "built-in bed board" or some other marketing spin designed to make it appear as though they are, in some way, a benefit.

Don’t be fooled!

Press down firmly on the box spring. If it doesn’t give when you apply pressure, you’re getting "Jack" (as in nothing) In The Box!
